10 Tips for the Best New Year’s Eve Party Ever
Going out for New Year’s Eve is fun, but you can still throw a celebration for the books from the comfort of your own living room. It’s easier than you might think. From essential time-savers to easy ways to elevate your food (yes, you can even serve caviar), we’ve gathered the best tips so you can get the party started with less stress. Cheers to easy entertaining!
1. Plan ahead.
One way to avoid last-minute chaos? Start planning early and be prepared. Use our handy Servings Calculator to figure out exactly how many hors d’oeuvres or how much dip you’ll need for your party.
2. Have wine, of course.
’Tis the season of good cheer, after all, so add at least one bottle each of red, white and sparkling wine. Need some help selecting which bottles to have on supply? Our wine experts, including Master Sommelier Devon Broglie, have handpicked their holiday favorites, so consult that list — then tell your guests the wine is expert-approved.
3. Then, create a DIY sparkling bar.
Let the fizzy festivities flow. Stock up on sparkling wine, sparkling cider and sparkling water — and then set out colorful juices like pomegranate, pink grapefruit and blood orange with cut slices of citrus for a mix-and-match cocktail and mocktail bar.
4. Make sure to serve shrimp cocktail …
Treating your guests to shrimp cocktail is easier than it sounds. All you need is fresh, cooked shrimp from our Seafood department, a glass bowl, ice, lemon wedges and cocktail sauce to start the celebration.
5. … and set up a caviar station.
The world of caviar can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. This year, you’re going to serve caviar (come on, you’ve already got the ice and bowl). Check out this unpretentious guide for a quick lesson on the delicacy. And once you’re comfortable, take it up a notch with a recipe that’ll really wow your guests.
6. Build the best cheese board ever.
For something impressive and easy, serve a beautiful cheese board alongside your DIY sparkling bar. If you need advice on pairings and accoutrements, simply ask one of our Certified Cheese Professionals or cheesemongers for help.
7. Eat cake!
Kick-start your new year with sweets for everyone. We teamed up with L.A.’s pie queen Nicole Rucker and baking genius Stella Parks to create two drool-worthy (and celebratory) desserts. You can order them here.
8. Pro host hack: Buy snacks.
Need something to round out your cheese board or hold your guests over until the appetizers are ready? Stock up on finger-friendly snacks you can easily leave out on the counter. We’re loving these new cheesy snacks.
9. Let nice dishes do the heavy lifting.
One of the simplest things you can do to elevate your party is break out your best bowls and platters. Beautiful serving bowls and plates can make simple snacks stand out. Besides, it’s the presentation that counts!
