Mulled Pinot Noir
A mix of warm spices and seasonal fruit make this mulled wine a holiday standout.
Serves 6 to 8
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups apple cider
- 4 cinnamon sticks, halved
- 4 whole star anise
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 6 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup whole fresh cranberries
- 1 bottle (750 milliliters) pinot noir or other light red wine
- 2 small Cara Cara or other seedless oranges, very thinly sliced (discard ends)
Method:
In a medium saucepan, combine cider, cinnamon sticks, star anise and cloves. Bring to a simmer over medium heat; lower heat and simmer 3 to 4 minutes to infuse spices into cider. Stir in sugar and cranberries. Pour in wine; bring just to a simmer and remove from heat.
Place 2 orange slices in each serving mug; strain wine mixture into mugs. Pick out cinnamon sticks, cranberries and star anise from strainer to garnish each serving (discard cloves). Serve hot.
